Professional Responder Training

Oxygen Therapy - (1-2hrs)

Designed to provide participants (in-facility and health care providers such as nursing, care aides, dental industry, medical offices and pre-hospital care groups like fire departments, rescue teams, sports therapists, lifeguards, SCUBA divers, ski patrol, etc.), with the knowledge and skills to correctly identify when it is necessary to administer supplemental oxygen. Participants will learn how to properly and safely handle and assemble the equipment and how to correctly deliver supplemental oxygen through the appropriate delivery device. Course can also be combined with Basic Life Support and is already included in the First Responder and Emergency Medical Responder courses.

Airway Management - (1-2hrs)

Designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to create a patent airway, the interventions to maintain it, and the equipment available to carry out these skills. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills required to provide the appropriate interventions, including measuring and inserting the applicable airway adjunct based on the patient’s condition. Course can also be combined with Basic Life Support training for additional certification and is already included in the First Responder and Emergency Medical Responder courses.

 

Basic Life Support (BLS) - 4hrs 

Designed to build participant confidence in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills in a team environment for professionals with a duty to respond. Teaches the important steps to perform a rapid assessment, perform Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, and perform rapid defibrillation including use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy can also be added as additional certifications to this course and is already included in the First Responder and Emergency Medical Responder courses.

First Responder BLS - 4 Day (40hrs)

Comprehensive first aid and CPR skills for professional first responders or those training to become first responders. Course teaches the patient assessment model, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, hemorrhage control, and care for a variety of acute and chronic conditions. Participants will be engaged in dynamic training techniques including video, media presentations, skills demonstrations, practice sessions, discussions and scenarios based on real-life situations.

Emergency Medical Responder BLS - 8-12 Day (80-120hrs) *depending on jurisdiction

Participants will learn and demonstrate all knowledge and skills needed to provide appropriate patient assessments, interventions, and on-going care, including the transportation of a patient to a healthcare facility. Course content may vary depending on jurisdictional requirements and, in addition, follows the National Occupational Competency Profiles (NOCP) as defined by the Paramedic Association of Canada. Participants will be engaged in dynamic training techniques including video, media presentations, skills demonstrations, practice sessions, discussions and scenarios based on real-life situations.

Bloodborne Pathogens - Self Paced Online Training

​

This program is designed for individuals who may be exposed to blood and body fluids or items contaminated with blood during the performance of their work and who wish to gain a basic understanding of blood-borne pathogens.

​

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the basic ability to recognize the hazards associated with occupational exposure to blood and body fluids; be familiar with the steps to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens; and to know the steps that should be taken following exposure to blood and body fluids.

​

The course is presented in 4 modules:

  1. Introduction to Bloodborne Pathogens

  2. Bloodborne Pathogen Regulations

  3. Workplace Programs and Personal Protection

  4. Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Follow-up

Medical Terminology - Self paced Online Training

​

The Medical Terminology course provides an introduction to the professional language used by those who are directly and indirectly involved with the art of healing. The course will also introduce those not currently involved in the health care environment with an introduction to the language of medicine. In addition, the program will provide participants with the basics of human anatomy and physiology.
