Fire Safety - Self Paced

Fire Safety teaches participants about the legislated fire safety responsibilities of the employer and the worker, describes safe work practices related to fire prevention, and provides practical information about emergency response in situations involving fire.

 

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Explain how the issue of fire safety is addressed by occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation in Canada and identify the fire safety responsibilities of employers and those of workers

  • Describe safe work practices that can reduce the risk of fire

  • Know what to do in the event of a fire

  • Recognize fire-related situations in which the use of a fire extinguisher is appropriate and situations in which it is best to evacuate rather than try to put out the fire

  • Identify the types of extinguishers, and the classes of fire that can be put out using each type of extinguisher

  • Know how to use a fire extinguisher

  • Understand the maintenance and servicing requirements related to fire extinguishers

 

WHMIS 2015 - Self Paced

 

WHMIS 2015 Online is based on the current 2015 legislation and meets the legislated requirement for general WHMIS training. Employers must also provide workplace-specific training and instruction for each of the hazardous products in the workplace.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of WHMIS 2015, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the essential role WHMIS plays in protecting the health and safety of Canadian workers

  • Identify the WHMIS responsibilities of suppliers, employers, and workers

  • Know the workplace requirements related to the use of supplier labels and workplace labels, and how to locate and interpret the information found on these labels

  • Recognize the WHMIS pictograms and the types of hazard each represents

  • Recognize the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) as a source of comprehensive information about a hazardous chemical in the workplace and know how to locate various types of information when reading an SDS

  • Identify the WHMIS exemptions for suppliers and importers

  • Know general safe work practices that should be followed when working with hazardous products

Cannabis is the Workplace - Self Paced 

​

Management Training: provides participants with information about cannabis in the workplace, focusing on the issue of impairment and providing practical guidance to help develop and apply appropriate and effective policies and procedures.

Who Should Take the Course?

This course has been designed for business owners, organizational leaders, and those with management responsibilities.

Course Objectives:

The purpose of this course is to provide a foundation that you can build upon when understanding the facts regarding cannabis in the workplace. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Know the facts about medical and recreational cannabis use in Canada

  • Recognize the potential causes, signs, and effects of impairment

  • Describe the health and safety responsibilities of employers and employees

  • Understand the duty to accommodate, as it applies to the use of medical cannabis

  • Recognize the limitations and challenges associated with drug testing

  • Know the importance of having a workplace policy, and procedures related to impairment

Training for Workers: aims to give employees the best possible understanding of the differences between medical and recreational cannabis, their responsibilities when using medical cannabis in the workplace, and employer responsibilities. This course explains the laws relating to human rights legislation and the duty to accommodate employees who have medical authorization to use cannabis.

Psychological First Aid - Self Paced

​

Self Care: This online course assists learners in developing a personal understanding of the effects of stress, loss, trauma and grief, with emphasis on self-care and personal protection. Learners will be introduced to the Red Cross Look, Listen, Link, Live model and will learn how to cope with the effects of various types of stress. This course can also be taken in combination with the Red Cross Caring for Others online course to supplement and strengthen an overall psychosocial wellness program. Available as a stand-alone course, or for candidates who wish to take the Psychological First Aid in-class course. Course is adaptable to all audiences (Youth, Workplace, Professional Responder).

Caring for Others: This online course assists learners in developing a personal understanding of the effects of stress, loss, trauma and grief on others, with emphasis on self-care and personal protection. Learners will be introduced to the Red Cross Look, Listen, Link, Live model and will learn how to support others to cope with the effects of various types of stress. Bloodborne Pathogens - Self Paced

This program is designed for individuals who may be exposed to blood and body fluids or items contaminated with blood during the performance of their work and who wish to gain a basic understanding of blood-borne pathogens.

​

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the basic ability to recognize the hazards associated with occupational exposure to blood and body fluids; be familiar with the steps to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens; and to know the steps that should be taken following exposure to blood and body fluids.

​

The course is presented in 4 modules:

  1. Introduction to Bloodborne Pathogens

  2. Bloodborne Pathogen Regulations

  3. Workplace Programs and Personal Protection

  4. Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Follow-up

Medical Terminology - Self Paced

​

The Medical Terminology course provides an introduction to the professional language used by those who are directly and indirectly involved with the art of healing. The course will also introduce those not currently involved in the health care environment with an introduction to the language of medicine. In addition, the program will provide participants with the basics of human anatomy and physiology.
